Acupuncture

We offer two different acupuncture styles with two of the UK's most qualified Acupuncturists!

This famous alternative system of medicine has been used for thousands of years in Eastern societies to promote and maintain good health.  In modern times, it is still practiced alongside “conventional” medicine in many Oriental hospitals and medical students often learn the two together.  So it is totally normal for a Chinese person to visit an Acupuncturist rather than a GP!

It is now the most commonly used form of complementary medicine.  For this reason, Western society increasingly recognises acupuncture as an effective treatment for many conditions.  Pain management, fertility, stress, headaches to name a few.

Consequently, the evidence case for acupuncture is building. Indeed, the government medical organisation, NICE, recommends acupuncture for a number of health-related issues.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting very fine needles of about a human hairwidth to specific points on the body.  These encourage the body’s response to self-healing.

The number of needles depends on each specific condition.  In general, your needles are left in place for around 20 minutes, during which time you can relax.

Some people may find that they experience a sharp pin-prick feeling as the needle is put in, which usually goes off immediately and is not painful.

You are usually recommended a course of treatments as one treatment is unlikely to be of long-term benefit.  And it is strongly advisable to assure yourself of the professional accreditation of your Acupuncturist as not all have the same level of training and knowledge.

Health conditions outside those which are “an annoying aching muscle” require the skills of a more experienced and BAcC accredited specialist Acupuncture practitioner. And fertility is no exception.  Typically good practitioners have in-depth of knowledge and understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or 5-Elements. They will also have a good level of education in Western Medicine.

At InsideOut we want to ensure we give you every possible support to help your baby dreams come true.

We provide acupuncture support to couples having fertility treatment.  This can be for those who are struggling to conceive, have unexplained recurrent miscarriage or other fertility related issues.  Our skilled acupuncturist, uses specialist acupuncture protocols that have been shown in clinical trials to improve IVF outcomes.

We are the only North Wales alternative medicine clinic to be partnered with the fertility hospital Reproductive Health Group, assisting patients at every stage of their IVF journey.  So, you are in safe, experienced and competent hands with us.

With You Every Step of the Way

To give yourself the best chance of success from acupuncture we recommend starting treatment 3-4 months before your IVF cycle is due to begin.  Typically, with 1 appointment per week.

Acupuncture over this period of time seeks to improve the environment in which the eggs mature.  It does this by seeking to balance natural hormones, regulating the menstrual cycle and reducing stress levels.

If you have been diagnosed with high FSH levels, thin endometrial lining or poor response in a previous cycle, this allows time to address these issues.

In the down-regulation phase of IVF, the aim of treatment is to alleviate any side effects of medication.  Such as hot flushes, headaches and mood swings, and assist thinning of the uterine lining.

During the up-regulation phase the focus is on stimulating blood supply to the uterus to aid follicle growth and thickening of the endometrial lining.  And helping you stay relaxed.

Treatment frequency depends on the type of assisted conception protocol and your response.  However, typically during the IVF cycle we support patients over a 3 week period. With 2 appointments per week to support the critical stages of the cycle.

Acupuncture at embryo transfer

Clinical studies have shown that acupuncture at the time of transfer can significantly increase the chance of implantation and full-term pregnancy.  Plus it may ease any stress and anxiety you may feel during and after the transfer itself.

Following a positive pregnancy test we recommend continuing acupuncture for the first few weeks of pregnancy.

Male Fertility

There is research to suggest that acupuncture can improve sperm quality and motility.

Appointments

Appointments are available at times to fit in with your hospital appointments.  We can be flexible to accommodate the specific needs of every client.[/vc_column_text]
